Aggravated Battery to a Juvenile and Resisting Police Arrest

On Saturday, September 28th, at approximately 2:00 PM, St. Charles Police Officers were dispatched to an aggravated battery that had just occurred in the 700 block of West Main Street. A juvenile victim had reported that he was independently utilizing the middle school football field when he was approached and battered unprovoked by a male subject not known to him. The offender was later identified as 21-year-old Anderson Contreras, homeless, from Elgin.

After striking the juvenile, Contreras immediately ran westbound from the area. A responding Officer was able to locate Contreras in the 1300 block of West Main Street, where he then fled from the Officer on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the Officer was able to locate and place Contreras into custody.

Following the completion of the investigation, the following charges against Contreras were approved:

The charges against Contreas are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
