School/Preschool Visits

The Fire Department offers a variety of programs for children in preschool and elementary school.

Elementary Schools

Every year during Fire Prevention Week, a themed program is presented at each elementary school within the City of St. Charles. This program highlights the fire safety message as presented by the National Fire Protection Association. Programs are also available for electrical safety, basic fire safety awareness, and other talks specifically tailored to the requests of teachers.

Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12, 2024. This year's theme is "Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!".

Preschools

Preschool programs are directed at basic fire safety. Topics discussed during the visit include home fire drills; stop, drop, and roll; and the use of 911. The program is also designed to allow children to become familiar with the firefighters and apparatus. Weather permitting, the children are able to walk outside and take a mini tour of the fire engine.
