Whole Foods Market

Building rendering

Whole Foods Market is coming to downtown St. Charles. The store is planned to open in Spring 2025.

The location is the former Blue Goose store, at 300 S 2nd St. Fort Union, a regional development commercial specializing in grocery anchors, acquired the property in 2023 and successfully entered into a lease agreement with Whole Foods Market.

Earlier this year, the City approved PUD Preliminary Plans for the project.  Construction is currently underway on both the building and surrounding parking lots. The project will be constructed in two phases:

  • For the first phase, now underway, is the property owner preparing the building and site. This includes demolition of interior and exterior improvements. Parking lots around the site are being reconstructed for future use by Whole Foods, including the City-owned temporary parking lot located at the southwest corner of Illinois & First Streets. This parking lot is currently closed during the improvements. When completed, a new parking lot will provide 30 public parking spaces at the north end along Illinois St. The sidewalks and landscaping along First Street are also being reconstructed to add angled street parking, paver bricks, landscape beds, and decorative lighting, similar to the other completed sections of First Street. The overall project will be completed this summer.
  • The second phase will be store improvements by Whole Foods to build out the store interior and add exterior signage. This work is anticipated to start this summer/fall and extend into early 2025.

As a part of the project approval, the City approved an incentive agreement to reimburse the developer for the cost of the parking lot and street/sidewalk improvements.
